PROFILE
While on hiatus from L'Arc~en~Ciel in 2001, HYDE kept himself and his fans occupied with a self-titled solo project. Taking advantage of the solo opportunity, HYDE's style has grown and expanded with each of his releases, showing fans a new way to rock. Though L'Arc~en~Ciel has stayed active, occasional breaks allow HYDE to continue with his solo career, recording and touring, always exhibiting a new dimension to his music and wowing audiences with his lively stage shows.

BIOGRAPHY
HYDE became well-known as the vocalist for popular rock band, L'Arc~en~Ciel, and began contemplating a solo career as the band rose to fame. However, such a project did not come to fruition until L'Arc~en~Ciel decided to go on hiatus in 2001. Slightly transforming his name and bleaching his hair blond, HYDE took a step away from his roots as L'Arc~en~Ciel's vocalist and took on the role of composer and lyricist for his own songs. With the October 2001 release of Evergreen, on his own Haunted Records branch of Ki/oon Records, HYDE surprised fans and critics with his lackadaisical guitar melodies and sensitive lyrics. Angel's Tale and Shallow Sleep continued this trend of sweet, acoustically-based melodies. In addition to this, the B-sides of all of his releases were the title tracks recorded completely in English. In March of 2002, HYDE released his first full-length solo album, Roentgen. The bulk of the album consists of the same mellow style, allowing HYDE to express his sensitive side.In April 2002, HYDE once again surprised fans by starring in the film "Moon Child" with fellow vocalist, Gackt, despite previous claims that he was hesitant to try acting. The movie was met with moderate success in Japanese theaters, boasting a musical duet between HYDE and Gackt entitled Orenji no Taiyou, which was released on Gackt's Crescent album. This satisfied the public until the release of HYDE's fourth single, HELLO. HYDE's style took on a new life, shifting from simple and melodious to heavier, guitar-driven rock. With a darker hair color and punk-rock wardrobe, HYDE returned to the music world ready to rock out. Following the release of another single, HORIZON, in November 2003, HYDE released his second solo album, 666 (pronounced "roku roku roku" as the Japanese pronunciation of "rock rock rock"). The album commanded a much stronger presence than the previous one, showing yet another side of HYDE, a rough-around-the-edges bad boy of rock. Before the release of his second album, HYDE reconvened with the rest of L'Arc~en~Ciel in June and July of 2003 for a seven day event, Shibuya Seven Days in Tokyo. With the release of the band's READY STEADY GO single, HYDE's solo activities slowed. He briefly returned to acting with the October 2004 release of the film "Last Quarter," re-released Roentgen entirely in English and released a collection of PVs entitled Roentgen Stories. But for the most part, HYDE played the exclusive part of L'Arc~en~Ciel's vocalist until October 2005 when the release of his COUNTDOWN single hinted at another hiatus from L'Arc~en~Ciel.HYDE started off 2006 with the release of yet another single, SEASON'S CALL, and later announced the release of a new full-length album. FAITH was another display of the way HYDE's style and skill evolves with every release. Having an interest in religions and strong opinions with regards to wars and other world events, HYDE used these elements as themes for this emotionally charged, hard hitting release. Not only did he produce another powerful collection of songs, but he also embarked on a massive tour of Japan, lasting from April to June of 2006. But, he didn't stop there. In July he brought his solo act to American soil for four sold-out, electrifying shows in California, playing in Anaheim, Hollywood, and San Francisco.Despite musical and visual style changes and a personal life kept hidden from the public, HYDE remains a fan favorite in the Japanese rock community, some of his songs even being used for television commercials, movies, and anime series. His success is not limited to Japan, however, as 666 was released in Germany in September 2005. Being a commanding vocal performer and confident rhythm guitarist, HYDE leaves a lasting impression on the Japanese music scene, an impression that circles the globe to touch fans in locations all over the world. With a tour with his newly founded VAMPS project coming up from August to October of 2008, who knows what HYDE might have in store for fans in the coming year. We can but watch and wait for this extraordinary performer to make yet another mark on the world of Japanese rock music.

Gabriela Robin

Gabriela Robin is a singer and lyricist, credited for nonsensical and broken language lyrics (known as “Gablish”) and vocals on many songs composed and arranged by Yoko Kanno. There is virtually no information available on Gabriela Robin, leading many to speculate that “Gabriela Robin” is a pseudonym used by Yoko Kanno herself. The fact that Robin seems to have done no work apart from Kanno (with the exception of the work of Kanno’s former husband , Hajime Mizoguchi), as well as lyrics and vocals credited to both Kanno and Robin in different sources, seem to support this theory. One may also note Kanno’s refusal to speak of Robin, and Mizoguchi’s response that Robin’s identity and language are a “company secret”. However, vocalist Ilaria Graziano, who works frequently with Yoko Kanno, has been cited as saying that Robin is a person separate from Kanno. Some of the better-known soundtracks with performances by Robin are Cowboy Bebop, Jin-Roh, Macross Plus, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Please Save My Earth, The Vision of Escaflowne, Earth Girl Arjuna, Genesis of Aquarion, Turn A Gundam and Wolf’s Rain. There exist several unequivocally real persons bearing the name ‘Gabriela Robin’ about whom information can be easily located (on the Internet and elsewhere), including a Central American author and artist, a law student and a music producer. However, it has been confirmed that they are not the same “Gabriela”.

PROFILE
Angela Aki is a female singer-songwriter who, despite having been active for quite some time, received little attention until 2006, when she sang a song for Final Fantasy XII. The majority of her songs feature piano accompaniment, and her skilled voice is able to reach the hearts of many people. Due to the fact that she has spent many years living abroad, she is able to sing perfectly in English.Despite having reached 'star' status, Angela Aki is usually seen wearing jeans and t-shirts and, of course, her characteristic black rimmed glasses.

BIOGRAPHY
The uniqueness of this artist is not limited to her music. Since her birth in September 1977 in Tokushima, Angela Aki has been bathed in different cultures: her mother is American, with Italian origins, and her father is Japanese. She learnt to play the piano at the age of 3 and mastered other instruments like the violin and guitar during her childhood. When she was 15, she moved to Hawaii with her parents and joined an American high school. She distinguished herself thanks to her strong personnality and got a scholarship to pursue her studies. She chose a college in Washington D.C. where she could study economics, politics, and music. She wrote and composed songs, gave several concerts and even produced her first album in English, These Words, in January 2000.Back in Japan, Angela Aki caught the attention of the public with her mini album ONE. Her songs, in Japanese this time, captured thousands of hearts and this album reached number one rank of the Oricon Charts. She was then noticed by Nobuo Uematsu who chose her to sing Kiss Me Good-Bye, the theme song of the video game Final Fantasy XII.After years of works and persistence, Angela Aki began her rise in the Japanese music scene and released her first major single HOME on September 14.The next year, the single Kokoro no Senshi "including a cover of the song TODAY by the SMASHING PUMPKINS " was released before the long-awaited Kiss Me Good-Bye came out in March. This Love was recorded in May and was chosen to be the ending theme of the anime BLOOD+.In June, Angela Aki released her 3rd album Home which included some high-ranking songs like This Love, Kokoro no Senshi, and Rain. She appeared in the press, television programs, and concert halls like the Budokan. A few months later, she was back in the spotlight with a live DVD and two singles: Sakurairo in March 2007 and Kodoku no Kakera in May, theme song of the drama Kodoku no Kakera~Itoshi Hitoyo~.

BIOGRAPHY
Dazzle Vision is a screamo band. They have elements of emo and rock, but occasionally the lyrics are screamed instead of sung. One very interesting thing is that the lead vocalist, Maiko, is the "Screamer." You would never think her capable of such low-pitched, bestial screaming due to her "cute" model looks, and beautiful, melodic voice. This band is definitely worth checking out. Dazzle Vision formed in June of 2003. In 2006 they toured all around Taiwan, met with good reviews at Spring Scream 2006 an outdoor music festival there, and subsequently released their first album in Taiwan on the waves of the tour's success. Later that year after touring in Japan they released that same first album in their native country, Origin of Dazzle, on April 25th. The eagerly awaited, Camille Japonica, their second album, was released on March 26th, 2007. And on November 28th, 2008 Crystal Children had hit the shelves and was already receiving much esteem.

PROFILE
One of the first visual-kei bands to greet their overseas fans, D'espairsRay has since returned to both Europe and North America multiple times to the delight of their international audience. Heavy, almost industrial gothic rock is their forte with vocal work that alternates between growls and screams to low, melodious tones. Matching the music, their look has always been quite dark, although it's become less extreme in recent years.

BIOGRAPHY
Formed in September of 1999, with HIZUMI on vocals, Karyu on guitar, ZERO on bass, and TSUKASA on drums, D'espairsRay made an immediate impression on the visual-kei scene. After a slew of multiband events, including their first live at the Takadanobaba AREA, and demo tapes, the group released their first single, Kumo, at the tail end of 2000. The new year then brought fans a second single as well as the band's first mini-album, TERRORS. Roughly a month after its release, the band traveled back to the live hall where they'd gotten their start for their first one-man.D'espairsRay's spent much of the next two years touring, including a special, free show at the Meguro Live Station in Tokyo. 2003 also brought fans two new singles: MaVERiCK and Gärnet, both now fan favourites and thought of as some of their best work to date. At the end of the year they took part in the 'Beauti-Fool's Fest 03' event alongside other bands such as Merry and MUCC.Like the years before it, 2004 found D'espairsRay mostly on the road or on the stage. Surprisingly, and to the great pleasure of their international fans, not all of those stages were located in Japn as the band set their sights on Europe with their 'D'espairsRay Europe Tour 2004 'Wollust ward dem Wurm gegeben-' tour that took place near the end of the year.Nearly six years after they'd started, D'espairsRay released their first full album, Coll:set, in 2005. That year they returned to Europe with a coupling tour with Kagerou but not before dropping in on their American fans with performances at a handful of conventions. All of these lives were very successful and so the band returned to the U.S.A. once more for a short tour in 2006 in addition to the release of their second live DVD, LIQUIDIZE.2007 has brought with it a second full album, the highly anticipated MIRROR, and news of more tour dates. American fans of the band were mostly delighted to see a stop on their shores included among them as D'espairsRay performed on the second day of the 'J-Rock Revolution Festival' held in Los Angeles. In 2008, D'espairsRay received the opportunity to perform throughout the USA with the Rockstar Taste of Chaos tour along with other Japanese artists such as MUCC and THE UNDERNEATH. With a fan base that stretches across the globe, D'espairsRay is set to make 2008 another remarkable year.

PROFILE
Dio - distraught overlord is a rather new visual kei band, and instead of following the current trends of more cheerful sounding music, Dio decided for a heavier, darker sound. Their aim is to produce new music, without any stereotypes, combining 'heavy' and 'melodious' in their songs. Their outfits seem to fit the ambiance they're creating with their music perfectly, and the members usually sport black leather and lacquer outfits.Although the band hasn't been around for a very long time yet, their popularity is rapidly increasing. Not just in Japan, but also overseas as the young band has toured Europe and also released their CDs in several European countries.

BIOGRAPHY
Dio originally started as a session band named Baby Santa at the end of 2005. About half a year later, the members decided to change their name to Dio, and became a real band instead of a session band. They consisted of only four members back then: Mikaru on vocals, Kei and erina on guitar and Ivy on bass. In these first months a support drummer played with them, but was soon after replaced by Denka. All of the members had been in various bands before and had gained a lot of experience already, giving them a lead compared to other new bands. In May, they gave their very first live as Dio and during the same night they distributed their first single, Garasu no Umi. More concerts followed for the young band, and in December they released their second single, Byakuya ni Moyuru Hana, which was released in both Japan and Europe. In May the following year, after the release of their third single, they performed their first one-man live. It was recorded, and later released on DVD. Not much later, it was announced that Dio was invited to perform at the French event the Japan Expo, which took place in early July in Paris. It was a great leap forward for the young band as they got the chance to perform for a foreign audience, which consisted of more people than they had ever performed for before. It seemed their performance at the Japan Expo had pleased both fans and band, as the quintet announced to be coming back to Europe in spring 2008. This time, the band toured across the whole continent with over a dozen concerts. In February 2008, the band had released their first mini-album, which also saw an European release in May. Another new single has been planned for release in August and it seems that after that, the band will return to Europe again for another tour!It seems that Dio - distraught overlord has already accomplished a lot in their short career, and we're curious to see how this talented band will develop itself further!

PROFILE
New visual kei band DaizyStripper has burst onto the Japanese music scene with something to offer every listener. Whether it be light and inspiring numbers or aggressive, heavy sounds, DaizyStripper produces catchy music overflowing with energy and emotion. Whatever the style of the song, the band's main priority when making music is to create "lasting melodies." The name DaizyStripper is derived from the positive image of young girls (represented by the "daisy") and the exposure of adults (represented by the "stripper"). The band's music explores the idea that adults tend to lose sight of how great it is to be immature - impulsive, optimistic, and in pursuit of dreams.

BIOGRAPHY
Mayu, Rei and Kazami were all previously in the band Clavier. DaizyStripper originated when Yu-giri, who had been wanting to form a band, approached Mayu directly after one of Mayu's shows as he was putting away his guitar. Finding that the music they listened to was similar, they decided to try their hand at making music together. Mayu talked with bassist Rei and after deciding they wanted twin guitars, Rei asked one of his acquaintances, Nao, to join. Finally the four members made a demo tape and sent it to drummer Kazami, who after hearing it along with Yu-giri's voice, felt this was his ideal band. And so in March 2007, DaizyStripper was formed. They played their first live in June and have since performed with an assortment of other bands in the visual kei scene.Released in February 2008, DaizyStripper's first release was a CD+DVD single titled Dandelion, whose title track was a message to fans describing their excitement about taking the stage for the first time. It entered at number ten on the Oricon indie chart and sold out immediately, resulting in the decision to release a second pressing, which made it to number one on the charts. The band was soon featured on TV and in several magazines, their popularity growing steadily. In May, DaizyStripper had the great opportunity of performing in front of a huge audience at Ajinomoto Stadium for the hide Memorial Summit. They then had their first one-man live, Stripper's Kingdom, on June 6th at Shibuya BOXX. That month they released a two-CD set called CROSS, and in September embarked on a tour of the Osaka-Nagoya-Tokyo circuit called [CROSS] - Gekijou Trip/Ryuusei Trip. In August DaizyStripper made their American debut, performing at the major anime convention Otakon 2008 in Baltimore, Maryland. A couple months later, their single TRUTH made it to first place on the Oricon Indies single chart, and 35th on the Oricon major chart, an impressive feat.2009 will see the release of a new single, Dearest, in June, followed by the band's one-man countrywide tour, Beauty Brightness, in July and August. Be sure to keep your eyes and ears open to learn more about this exciting and promising young band.

PROFILE
X JAPAN, formerly X, was one of the best-known and regarded bands in Japan in the 1980s and '90s. Their concept was "Psychedelic Violence- Crime of Visual Shock." They are often regarded as one of the founders of the visual-kei movement in Japan, although they were hardly the only band to dress colorfully and wildly at the time.Their music is a strong representation of their times. Their style started out quite heavy metal although their offerings were littered with ballads as well, including the famous Art of Life, a song which is nearly half an hour long. Over time, their sound became even more varied as the band let their true talents shine.

BIOGRAPHY
It was in 1980 that childhood friends YOSHIKI and TOSHI formed a band known as Noise. Two years later, they changed their name to X and began their ascension into rock history. They began by performing at clubs and such with the help of random musicians, gathering quite the underground following in the process. They eventually had tracks on certain rock compilations, which only helped to expand their growing fan base. In 1987, they recruited HIDE, PATA, and TAIJI to complete their line-up and make it official. The boys were a crowd favorite, but couldn't seem to find a record label interested in their music. With the money from his mother's sale of the family business, YOSHIKI created his own label, Extasy Records, and released Vanishing Vision, X's first official album. It made a large impact on the metal scene, but failed to grab Japan’s attention. However, the metal heads were so into it that Sony Records Japan took notice and gave the band a record deal.Blue Blood was soon released and became a runaway hit. Songs like Weekend and Endless Rain swept the nation off its feet and gave the band the boost they needed. X was everywhere. Non-stop radio play, amazing record sales, and a slew of TV interviews were all it took to make X one of the most successful bands in Japanese history. Their national tours sold-out almost instantaneously and they became the first band in history to play the Tokyo Dome three nights in a row.Needless to say, their following album, Jealousy, blew expected record sales away. Unfortunately, all the success in the world couldn't keep TAIJI in the band. He left in 1992 and was replaced by HEATH, who made fans relatively quickly. The band later switched to a different label, in hopes of reaching out overseas. However, the discovery of an American punk band named X prompted them to change their name to X JAPAN to avoid copyright and confusion issues. The first release under the new name was 1994's Art of Life, a 29 minute album made famous for one reason: it contained only one track! The epic song delighted audiences and shot all the way to first place on the Japanese charts during its release. It has only been performed live once, caught on tape and released as ART OF LIFE 1993.12.31 TOKYO DOME. 1996 came around and X JAPAN released their final album, Dahlia. Only a handful of months later, in April of 1997, TOSHI left the band. There have been plenty of rumors as to why and many fans had a difficult time forgiving him for his departure. Soon afterwards, X JAPAN announced its disbandment. Their final concert took place at the Tokyo Dome on December 31st, 1997, forever immortalized on video as The Last Live.Rumor has it that HIDE and YOSHIKI were planning on eventually resurrecting the band with a new singer, but that never happened seeing as HIDE died tragically in May of 1998. His death shocked the entire nation and reunited X JAPAN for one final performance: Forever Love, sung as a farewell at his funeral.X JAPAN's material continues to sell extremely well to this day, almost ten years after their disbandment. Regarded as legends, their impact on the Japanese music scene can still be felt today through visual-kei bands and their unique looks. However, to X fans, the style will forever be known as the art of "Psychedelic Violence- Crime of Visual Shock."

-OZ- official site

Active since 2004, -OZ- is among bands which slowly progress. They also remind the listener of D'espairsRay because of the similarities in their concept. The band is based on Tama, who is the composer, and Natsuki, who writes the lyrics.

-OZ- was created in October 2004 by a fusion between two bands: Natsuki and Aki from Scare Crow and Tama, Nao from Gypsy. Zukki, who at the time was the drummer in Usagi, later joined.
Two months later, they started performing at small live houses mainly in Tokyo. Their first maxi-singles were released in July and September 2005. Each single had a different title from the main song. All following CDs would also be named after this pattern.

The famous label Loop Ash spotted them in 2006 and this new partnership made possible the release of Eve's apple and Adam's apple at the end of the year.

In addition, the song CRY the crime was a gift in the magazine, SHOXX's December issue. Since then, -OZ- has gained more popularity and though their rise was slow, they didn't give up. With their first mini-album SIX released in May 2007 and followed by a new maxi titled elf that came out at the end of October.

To the delight of their fans, -OZ- will play their first oneman in Niigata and Tokyo on December 21st and 28th.
